How might we incentivize people to stay off their phones when driving or sharing moments with loved ones?
In America, about 500,000 injuries and 3,4777 deaths are caused by distracted driving. Americans check phones every 6 minutes (150 times a day), which is about 3 hours a day on average.
Incentivized target users to drive safely by building a holistic web presence, including branding, website, and native app. This positioned the company to receive $200,000 in investment funds.

Servare removes temptation by blocking texts and calls during your journey while still allowing access to music and GPS. Each time you travel using the app you accrue points that are then used to redeem at discounted rates at local merchant stores. The app helps people save lives, save relationships, and save money.
You live in a tech world, and while technology seems to offer limitless potential, we set forth to help people control the time they spend on technology by using the servare app to gain discount rewards from merchant partners. We developed the name, UI, and brand presence which were then used in designing and developing the ios and android native app.
A simple video explaining the mission of Servare app and how it works.

Servare was first created to stop people from cruising down the freeway at 75 MPH watching snaps, liking Instagram posts, and sending selfies because -- while it sounds silly -- honestly it is far too common. Over 69% of people age 18-64 admit to using their phones while driving. Think about your parents browsing FaceBook as they drive: it should scare you. Last year there were over 3,477 deaths due to distracted driving on roads with over 500,000 injuries.
Another problem plaguing our world is being on your phone and ignoring the beautiful people and environment around you. Servare's goal is to help people by rewarding them for putting down their phones. By locking your phone and enjoying life with your family, friends, and pets, you will use Servare to improve your quality of life.
Our large network of partners ensures that we have a reward for every taste. Our merchants' partners will help you save money -- all just for doing the right thing.

Eric is a communications student and commutes along the same route to school five days a week. Because his route is repetitive, he finds himself distracted easily by his phone, especially social media or messages. He connects his phone to his stereo to listen to music and podcasts while driving.
Tammie commutes to work daily and also runs errands for her boss, the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine. Her company offers incentives to workers who drive safely while on the clock.
Julian spends long hours driving to photograph stories throughout his state. He often drives alone and with few hours of sleep.
Targets students; food discounts are earned with lock time

Reads texts out loud in real-time and allows dication
Servare also targets drivers; Servare allows the use of music and podcast apps in lock mode
Servare avoids DriveSmarts’ distracting notifications
Servare is dedicated to removing driving distractions, not replacing them
Leader board / ranking system
Able to track all points earned within those groups (great for competitions but also for corporations) Corporations/schools can then track productivity levels. [Important for everyone to see all the data i.e. If I go to The University of Utah I can see all the points rival BYU is earning]
Advertising platforms
Lock phone (except calls on bluetooth, music and gps) = earning token backed on Ethereum blockchain?
Earn points for referrals (like the extra lives on HQ)
Automatic Text that goes out to anyone trying to text that phone. “Sorry I can’t receive texts right now because I’m earning points! Check it out (link)”
Moving 10mph = earning double points and double tokens
Geo Tag Locations for Corporate sponsors to offer double points
A page that shows a map of all “Partners” that accept points in your area.
A page that shows all “Partners” companies that accept points
Able to redeem points in popular games (weapons, abilities, secret levels etc.)
-Daily, Weekly, or monthly Lottery pulls (they possibly have to be “live” online to see lottery drawing...kind of like HQ. This attention could make it easier to get AAA and other companies to sponsor the lottery for marketing.)
Invite those around you to join to earn more points
Able to transfer points from one digital wallet to another (unlimited) possibly with QR Code
Their challenge was to continue to create interest in Volkswagen's BlueMotion technologies-innovations that reduce environmental impact compromising on performance
The theory was based on the fun theory: that the easiest way to change human behavior for the better is by making it fun to do .The next phase of the fun theory project was to realize the winner of the fun theory award. The idea came from Kevin Richardson of the USA and was based around using the fines from those caught speeding to reward those who don't, through a lottery.
The fun theory drove debate around how to use fun to change behavior on the roads, both locally in Sweden, but also around the globe. The success of the project helped reduce the average speed by 21.6% - equivalent to 6.8km/h and grew Volkswagen's share of the eco-car by 84% ( source: bilsweden)
Our precedent research analysis helps us identify trends, themes, and areas of opportunity for discovery in the development of the native app while conducting an in-person study with 200 students and with our competitor.
We realize that accruing points for discounts was an effective way to incentivize young people to use our lock screen and one that set us apart from most of the competition.
We also discovered that many users prefer to use music or other audio entertainment when in lock screen mode and accruing points; therefore, our app incorporated that feature.
With our final design iterations for the MVP version, we performed usability testing with 150 individuals participating. We drew participants from students in three University of Utah class periods.
Insights from the testing The rewards featured received good feedback. We also discovered many people were more likely to lock the app if they could earn rewards offered by companies whose products they already enjoyed. This became more of a marketing challenge: the owners of the app would need to get more companies on board, knowing that would be a major selling point for getting new users. we also discovered that people wanted access to music apps such as Spotify while gathering points, so Servare needed a feature allowing for audio playback during the in-app lock mode.
