In a marketplace full of recycled watch designs, how might we reinvent the traditional watch to create a new trend for millennials?
We combined minimalism and uniqueness to create an identity that complements the “hip” characteristics of the snapback culture. We did this by shifting the focus from the face to the band, setting the watch apart from hundreds of other redundant designs that are currently on the market.
Designed and developed a customizable hybrid watch that addresses millennial’s unique and authentic styles on a day-to-day basis.

The snapback watch is an interchangeable watch inspired by both minimalist styles and the urban hip-hop of the 90s. The concept is an incorporation of a unique and patented design rendition of the old urban classic snapback hat strap to a sleek contemporary watch form. Through a collaborative process with engineers and manufacturers, the watch became a reality.

The world’s first hybrid design of a snapback hat and watch—a Snapback watch. The first watch to use a Snapback strap, it nods to the ’80s and ‘90s hip-hop Snapback hat -- and every piece is easily interchangeable for endless individualization.
We worked with Acrivia Innovations - a company known widely for its excellent quality control, evaluating its process, and developing minimum viable prototypes. Our initial test run included six watch faces and twelve bands that can be easily interchangeable. The intention now was to test and learn through our targeted millennial crowd and gather insights for further product iterations.

The Luku Watch’s band is quickly and conveniently changed using a popup spring pins: no tools necessary. Its endless customizability allows it to fit uniquely with any look, adding a subtle pop or a bold exclamation to any ensemble. A smooth, rounded face and a one-size-fits-all adjustable strap design perfectly match the watch to all wrist sizes.
To give the watch a dramatic makeover, all that’s needed is a quick swap of the band. However, every part of the watch is interchangeable. Loops, snaps, back, face: every piece can be easily and quickly changed without tools, making the watch compatible not only with any look but also any mood.
We incorporated local fashion designers’ concepts to our unique customization designs of the face and bands for an unprecedented rendition of the old urban classic in a sleek contemporary watch form.
It's a watch that, for the first time, places a new emphasis on the opposite side. Because of this unique customizable feature, the Snapback watch stands above all the redundant styles other watches express.
With Snapback culture embedded in unique forms of artistry, we decided to have our watch face designs represent that. While they are all different, there is one common feature: Interchangeable Snapback Bands.
